Journey

User Experience? User Experience.

When I started university, UX design was non-existent to me. Like many who are not in the tech industry, I did not know what it was, let alone understanding its importance.

In my second year of university, my friend (bless her heart) encouraged me to participate in a design-a-thon held by UXL. Trying to be open to new experiences, I agreed. That one design competition changed the trajectory of my life. Through workshops and industry professionals, I learned about design and fell.in.love. And that's when I started researching…..a lot. And the more I read, the more I realized how much it aligned with my interests.

Crafting Experiences, One Pixel at a Time.

In a nutshell, I was set on becoming a UX designer - a good UX designer. I started taking courses offered by my university and decided to minor in design, taking virtually every course available on my campus. I also networked with a lot of different designers, understanding the sub-fields within design.

Wanting to get more involved, I joined UXL as the VP of Events in my third year and learned a lot about running successful workshops. In my 4th year, I wanted to expand the club. It was a full circle moment. I started my career through UXL and ended up becoming President — helping other students discover their passion for UX.

Learn, Apply, Improve. Repeat.

As president of the club, I had a great time mentoring students who wanted to learn more about the field. I interned at BlackBerry as a UX Design Intern, and then headed to Miovision, both companies located in Waterloo-Kitchener. I then interned at Interac for 8 months and returned to the company as a full-time designer!

Personal Life

If I am not designing or learning more about design, I am probably out travelling, at the gym, or reading. I am a huge advocate for self-improvement and am always looking for an opportunity to learn. If you have something in mind, hit me up :)
